Are there more formatting options for my chart?

Where can I find definitions for information found in IRIIS?

When your mouse rolls over an item with a definition such as

  • "All OSU Students" under the "Student Group" tab,
  • "Headcount" or "Percent of Table Numbers" under the "Headcount..." tab, and
  • "Residency" under the "Rows" or "Columns" tab,

that item will become underlined.  Simply click on the item to view its definition.

Another way to access definitions is by viewing the IRIIS Help page.  To access help, click on the "Help" link within the series of links (Information About...| Tutorial| Help| FAQ's| Feedback) located in the upper left of most IRIIS Web pages.

How do I recreate the "Ethnicity-All Students-by Level" table found in the Enrollment Summaries published by the Office of Institutional Research?

IRIIS ethnicity differs from Enrollment Summary ethnicity in two areas: (1) United States and international students are counted together, and (2) More ethnic categories are presented.

In order to achieve Enrollment Summary numbers through IRIIS, first use the "Residency" category on the Rows/Columns tab to obtain the count for international students.  Then, group

  • "White", "Middle Eastern", and "North African" to get the "Caucasian" count, and
  • "Multiple Ethnics" with "Declined to Respond/Missing" to achieve the "Declined/Missing" number in the Enrollment Summaries (see the table below).

What is the difference between Guest User and Authorized User access?

Guest User access does not require a username or password.  The level of access excludes the following student information.

  • Age
  • Country of Citizenship
  • Ethnicity
  • Gender
  • High School Name
  • Oregon County
  • U.S. Minority

Also, individual student records that have been marked confidential have been modified so that the aggregate student information is reported as unknown.  Therefore, the number for specific values within categories may not be exact.  For example, the number of Oregon Residents will be less than the actual number if the original values for residency were replaced with the "unknown" text for confidential student records.

Authorized User access is granted to those OSU employees who have a legitimate "Educational need to know".  "Educational need to know" means that one's official employment appointment to OSU requires him or her to use the data.  This level of access requires FERPA training.  Applicants should be prepared to describe the data that they are needing to see and the responsibilities that they perform that necessitates this level of access.  If you currently have or previously have had Student Banner or Web for Advisor access or training then your FERPA training requirements have been met.  Authorized Users have access to all available IRIIS information including information not available to guest users.

How do I get the total number of majors in a particular subject area using IRIIS?

Create four separate tables: one for primary major 1, primary major 2, secondary major 1, and secondary major 2.  Select the same major for each of these major fields or categories.  Once you have your completed tables, add the totals from each table to get the total number of majors.
